Data Viz DC Recap

I had so much fun speaking at Chief Agency for the December Data Viz DC meetup last night! Special thanks to Casey at Chief for coordinating with Sean to put on the event, and thanks to all those that came out. Unfortunately some people had to be moved to the wait list due to space restrictions-- hopefully we can do a similar event again, but the folks at Chief did capture a rough video for those who couldn't make it.

The talk started out with my personal story and an activity where I challenged the attendees to draw their own data visualization that tells a story about themselves. We had amazing entries! You can check all of them out on Twitter but here is a sampling of some crowd favorites:

After the intro I shared "Five Things from CatMule" a-la my weekly newsletter, all of the content and references are available for your clicking pleasure on my previous post. I wrapped up the talk by answering some amazing questions from the audience. I posted all of the slides on slideshare (embedded below).

I don't know if I've mentioned this on my site, but it has been such a refreshing change to spend more time in my own city and meet and work with the people here doing awesome things. I have lived in/around DC pretty much my whole life, and I can't believe it's taken me this long to discover the the awesome creative community that is here.
